Aurora Lambert, President/CEO of The Jewish Hospital, Wins Health Care Hero Award

--

Cincinnati Aurora Lambert, President/CEO of The Jewish Hospital, was recently named the winner in the manager category for the Cincinnati Business Couriers annual Health Care Heroes awards.

Lambert was nominated for the award by more than 20 peers, employees and colleagues. A registered nurse, she took over leadership of the hospital in 1999. The main hospital campus on Burnet Avenue had closed two years earlier, and she oversaw the move of all services to the hospitals current location in Kenwood. At the time, Jewish Hospital faced a very uncertain future; it was a money-losing hospital in a money-losing system.

Under Lamberts leadership, the hospital retained its reputation for excellence, solidified its presence for quality care in the community, and found solid financial footing.
Excerpts from her nominations include:

She taught her managers to think carefully about every penny they spent. And to be sure that when they did spend, it was for the patient first. She is tough, brilliant, compassionate and careful. Shes well-respected by her employees and physicians; a tough line for any hospital administrator to walk.

Among her many wonderful traits are loyalty, trustworthiness, a unique ability to be able to pick the right person to accomplish the job, a deep knowledge and understanding of the problem at hand and an uncanny ability to ask the right questions
to get to a resolution. With Aurora as our leader, one is always aware of her motivation. She expects that if you work at Jewish Hospital, you come to work each day with the patient in mind. This philosophy permeates throughout Jewish Hospital.

Aurora is often seen visiting patients and checking up on them throughout their stay. One time, a husband of a patient made a special request to borrow a reclining chair. His wife was very ill and he wanted her to be comfortable at home. Aurora not only let him borrow it, but she also made arrangements to have it delivered to their house."
